Why Share Characters?
Sharing your character gives your DM and party members access to your character sheet. This enables:
DM Oversight
Your DM can view your stats, spells, and abilities to run the game more smoothly.
Party Coordination
Party members can see each other's abilities to plan tactics and avoid overlap.
Collaborative Editing
With edit access, your DM can update your HP or add conditions during play.
Easy Linking
Share a simple link - no account required to view (view-only shares).
Permission Levels
ICE5e offers two permission levels for shared characters:
| Permission | View Character | Edit Character | Delete | Manage Shares |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| View | ||||
| Edit | ||||
| Owner (You) |
View Permission
Viewers can see everything on your character sheet but cannot make any changes.
Best for:
- - Party members seeing your abilities
- - DMs who only need to reference your stats
- - Sharing for feedback or review
Edit Permission
Editors can modify your character, including HP, spells, equipment, and more.
Best for:
- - DMs updating HP during combat
- - Collaborative character building
- - Someone managing your character for you
Only You Can Delete
Even with edit access, only the character owner can delete a character or manage its share settings. Your characters are always under your control.
Managing Your Shares
You can view and manage all active shares for your character from the Settings tab on your character sheet.
View Active Shares
See who has access and what permission level they have.
Revoke Access
Remove someone's access instantly. The share link will stop working.
Change Permissions
Upgrade or downgrade a share from view to edit or vice versa.
Create New Links
Generate additional share links with different permissions as needed.
Viewing Shared Characters
When someone shares a character with you, it appears in the "Shared With Me" section of your dashboard.
Shared characters show:
- View or Edit - Your permission level
- Owner's name - Who the character belongs to
- Color-coded border - Yellow for view, green for edit
Click on a shared character to open it. With view access, you'll see a read-only version. With edit access, you can make changes just like your own characters.
Privacy & Security
Your characters are private by default. They only become visible to others when you explicitly share them.
Private by Default
New characters are only visible to you until you share them.
You Control Access
Only you can create share links and revoke access at any time.
No Public Profiles
There's no public character browser. Sharing requires explicit links.
Secure Links
Share links use unique, unguessable tokens.
